Kathedraal van Doornen

After five and a half years of hard work the Cathedral of Thorns is on its way to becoming one of the most multidisciplinary art-projects in the history of Curacao. It is a monumental work of art, a beautiful stage, a peaceful place to contemplate and a major attraction for artists, performers and visitors.

Book – Storm

September 6, 2017, was the day of the most destructive national disaster and the worst nightmare Sint Maarten had ever seen. On that day Hurricane Irma slammed her tail and left the island in total chaos and shambles.

This book ‘Storm’ is about the dramatic experiences of two young boys,
David and Tony, during and after the arrival of the monster hurricane called Irma.

Storm is dedicated to all those who risk their lives to help others in need, with special appreciation for the work of all emergency services: SKS: the Royal Dutch Marechaussee: Police, Justice and Fire departments; Sint Maarten Medical Center; Red Cross; White -Yellow Cross and many others.

This book will be distributed among e.g. elimentary schools throughout
St. Maarten and stimulates children to develop their awareness about friendship and climate change.

Eddy Wegman (17 February 1918 – 12 May 1998 was born in Doetinchem, in the Netherlands. He left for Curaçao in September 1945, where he had been offered a job at Shell. In Curaçao he devoted the little free time he had largely to his new passion: photography.

As a photographer he gained the trust of the local population in a special way. This is evident in the powerful portrait photographs he took during his stay in Curaçao (1945-1963). During his life Wegman received numerous awards for his work.

Take a look at postwar Curaçao through the lens of this talented amateur photographer.

IBB begeleid talentvolle jongeren

Dank voor jullie inzet IBB – Proud of your work and contribution!

DANCE CURACAO 5TH ANNIVERSARY

Dance Curacao is a dance event organized to stimulate and encourage our local young dancers  (ballet/jazz/ modern/ hiphop) to improve their knowledge and develop their basics of theatre Dance and Performing Art by providing them a week of intensive classes given by international teachers. Some of these dancers have briljant skills but never have the opportunity to experience the world they so often dream about.
With this event we create a platform for our talented dancers by bringing international influences, vibes and skills closer to home. This unique event contributes to the development, deepening and broadening of our local talents and skills. We aim to stimulate the students and try to contribute to the growth of the identity of our society.

This year was the 5th anniversary!
We brought back international talents of our OWN!

Local talents who pursued their dreams and are currently practising a professional international dance career abroad.

They shared their stories and experiences with today’s talents,
who are at the start of a journey they once began.

SEA & Learn project Saba

The Sea & Learn program is multi-faceted.

Sea & Learn invites a variety of experts and scientists to collaborate, interact, and engage with the local community of Saba, as well as traveling tourists visiting the island. Local venues provide a casual learning environment to host evening multi-media presentations so that experts can share their research and knowledge and how it relates to local environment of Saba and the surrounding region.

All Saba students from kindergarten through secondary schools are taken out of the classroom to participate in nature field projects, both on land and the sea. Likewise, there are also terrestrial and marine field projects for adults. Exposure to our program is not just beneficial in the month of October. For example, this year’s program will allow a number of locals to assist with Saba’s coral nursery. Becoming a citizen scientist also translates to more local volunteering throughout the year and perhaps other areas within the community.
